Blizzard Day 2008!

It's official - we've had the first blizzard of the year. Blizzard Ali began last night and has continued on since then. This morning we went out to get the paper and found it frozen in its folded position. That's right, we had to un-thaw the paper just to read it. After we thawed the paper we saw that they had named this Blizzard Ali. Now, when you see ALI do you think cute nickname for Allison, or middle eastern last name Ali? Brian thought the latter, while Chilly thought of the nickname. As usual Brian was wrong. Just goes to show, androgynous names should not be applicable to storms. No Pats, Sams, Lynns or the like, just good old fashioned names that we can all understand like John, Tim, Melissa, Jane.

We decided to take advantage of the blizzard and have a day inside. After a breakfast of pumpkin pancakes, we assembled our crib! It was quite the reality check as we were putting the finishing touches on the assembly. Once we finally got the crib together we stood there and stared at the empty crib for about 15 minutes before we decided that we had other things to do. I guess it's an indication of how we intend to spend the bulk of our time for the next 18 years - staring and waiting for something great to happen, hoping that nothing bad will happen.

It has also been inordinately cold in our house today. It is 50 below outside with the wind chill (and for you on the east and west coast, that is not an exaggeration, it is really 50 below zero here today) and our house is a frigid 60 degrees. That is why we are up, at 12:30 in the morning`writing a blog, because Brian has to wait until the quick-boiler-fixes take effect or don't take effect. It is starting to feel warmer in here though. Also, the cold water in our basement bathroom stopped working. Just another cherry on the top of a day of intense plumbing and heating frustration. I can only hope that our main floor stays 60 degrees and the basement pipes burst, then I can wake up at 6 to shovel and have a stroke. Uggh.

That should suffice for now. Back with updates later. (The first picture is of Brian in his empathy belly suit from last week's birthing class).

It's funny that Brian is so concerned with coventional gender assignments to names when he has a sister named Michael.

I want more belly pics!
