Greetings and salutations. We have had a busy and exciting couple of weeks here at 1120 Chestnut. Let's start with the mundane. Brian had inventory at work 2 straight weekends. Everybody always bitches about inventory but it really is quite cathartic. It is kind of like painting, you start with a little swatch of wall and when you finish you look back and marvel at how you had the patience to get through the entire project. Also like painting, the monotony is eased with copious drinking of adult grain malted beverages. When all was said and done, the warehouses looked nice and clean and Brian was 4 days of vacation richer; vacation days that will be used in the coming couple of weeks when the little one arrives!
Speaking of the little one we have lots of progress to report. The pool is filling up, and so far we have $135 in cash for the winner. Dates chosen have ranged from Feb. 6th to Feb. 21, the due date of course being Feb 10th. If you are interested, and have not received an email just post on the blog and we will send you a copy of the board so far.
The baby's room is done! It looks great, and is easily the most complete room in the house. It even has curtains, which is more than we can say for the rest of the upstairs. All that is missing is a little bundle of constantly eating and pooping joy. Chilly is very excited to be the designated midnight feeder, Brian doesn't plan on doing anything like that. (Note the Chilly eye rolling). Really though, we are very excited for the next couple of weeks. When it is finally over Chilly will be able to put her own socks and shoes on, which is a bonus. Speaking of socks and shoes, we washed all the baby laundry this weekend. Unless you have washed 40 baby outfits and 10 pairs of socks, all of which needed the tags cut off, you have no idea how much time it takes. It took 20 minutes just to load the washer, and another 20 to fold the clothes. That is 20 minutes with Chilly, Dana and Brian all folding clothes. If you multiply that by 3 that is how long Chilly will spend when she gets the chance to be the sole clothes folder in the house. 60 minutes. Woof.
We also went to Gran Torino yesterday - ergo the title of the blog. It was a great movie. Good message, good story, good acting. Highly recommended by all in attendance. We watched it at the Carmike Theater courtesy of Santa Ron. That theater is beginning to look like a ghost town. There can't have been more than 20 people in the movie, and Brian heard today that at River Cities Cinema is East Grand the line was out the front door. Who could blame them though. We got a medium popcorn - $6.50, medium drink - $5.75, and a mini-Butterfingers box - $3.00. Terrific. They don't even allow refills on mediums. Only larges, to which the consumer has the joy of paying $1.00 per refill. The nerve. They are beginning to resemble the evil "For Profit" companies that liberals love to bitch about. "Wall Street has been driven by a RELENTLESS pursuit of Profit." That was actually on CNN by the way - direct from the President's mouth, as if profit is what we as Americans should avoid. Anyhoo, we digress.
Last but not least we registered for baby stuff today. The entire process makes the head hurt. The check list says "bottles and nipples". Seem straight forward? Not so. Are they BPA-free? Do you need to use the same brand liners as bottles? 5 or 8 ounce? Glass or plastic? Would you like a bottle brush with that sir? How about a $10 plastic box to wash your stuff in, gotta have one of those. Maybe 2? OK, that is too much. How much do you think the baby really cares, honestly? Imagine the little baby voice - "Make sure the bottle is BPA free, and while you're at it don't be cheap and make sure to buy a baby wipe warmer. How would you like cold moist towelettes on your rump?" Unreal. It makes wedding registration seem like happy hour.
That will be all for now. Off to dream of bouncy chairs, receiving blankets and nursing pillows. If you have any suggestions for good baby monitor systems let us know. We still don't have a name, but we are narrowing down a list. More on that later.
Cheers. The Goodmans.
