We typically go to a movie once a year - but this summer it seems like we've been going a lot more often.
X-Men: First Class
This move was great. Even if you are not familiar with the comics or the movie franchise, you can still understand what's going on. The movie is about the beginning of X-Men and starts during World War II into the 1960's in America. In 1962, Charles Xavier starts up a school and later a team, for humans with superhuman abilities. Among them is Erik Lensherr, his best friend... and future archenemy. It explains how the mutants and the American government come to work together, how the characters get their names and even introduces some characters who never make it pass "first class". Kevin Bacon also stars in this movie and is pretty awesome in it.

CARS 2
This was Lilly's second movie in the theater. It's the James Bond version of Cars and was okay. Star race car Lightning McQueen and his pal Mater head overseas to compete in the World Grand Prix race. But the road to the championship becomes rocky as Mater gets caught up in an intriguing adventure of his own: international espionage. The humor was there but the themes and plot line were definitely for older kids - not our 2 year old toddler. It was also pretty long for an animated movie.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon (Transformers 3)
Definitely a "summer action" movie. Neither of us are really into Transformers nor have we watched the first two movies in the franchise, but the plot line is not intricate and you can follow along. The Autobots (the good robots) learn of a Cybertronian (the planet they originally come from) spacecraft hidden on the Moon, and race against the Decepticons (the bad robots) to reach it and to learn its secrets. A predictable plot with lots of fight scenes and a ridiculous amount of product placement. Same cast as previous movies with the exception of Victoria Secret model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. Is it a movie that's going to really make you think and ponder the concept (like Inception)? Definitely not. But if you're looking for a summer flick with lots of action, corny humor and a hot chick - then this is the movie for you.
3 out of 5 stars.
