Lilly and the graduate
Greetings friends and family! We apologize for the length of time since our last post but it has been a pretty busy month. Let's start at the top.
The month began with Chilly's birthday. She turned 27 years old on May 3rd. Apparently 27 means that you don't want a party anymore, so we had a nice quiet birthday at home. Lilly and Buttercup were so kind as to buy Chilly the Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift CD's, which she appreciates very much.
The next big holiday was Mother's Day. Mother's day turned out to be a busy day indeed. We celebrated a few days early with Ron, Dana, Bernie, Michael and Sam at Ron and Dana's house. We also said goodbye to Dana and Michael since they were going to Europe shortly thereafter.
On Mother's Day proper we got an early start. We had to be at the Walle Church (Not East Walle, which is just down the street) by 8:15 for Jimmy's confirmation. This meant we had to be up by 6 to get Chilly, Lilly and Brian ready to go. This process ended up being surprisingly easy, even though Brian was up until 3 with Lance and Garrett. We got to the church on time and picked up Bernie to boot! Once we got there Amy asked if Brian was going to take Communion. Seeing as though Brian hadn't taken communion since 2000 he figured he might as well. Turns out that communion makes Lilly have to poop. Just before communion Lilly decided to poop and cry. Chilly, not having the understanding of how a church service progresses, did not know the events that lead up to communion and had Brian go change her poops. Ergo, Brian missed communion. The drought continues.
Immediately after returning from poop changing we watched Jimmy get confirmed. As we were standing at the end of the service, Lilly was having a grand old time staring at Sheri Sherva who was sitting behind us. She was having such a great time she decided to puke right then and there. Brian rushed her out to clean her off and that was the end of church. On to Barry and Amy's for fresh, homemade caramel rolls.
We scratched Mother's Day dinner for an emergency room visit. Lilly had a pink-eye look to her - turns out it was mild case - but better safe than sorry, especially since Chilly and Lilly flew out the next day for VA. We celebrated our first official Mother's Day with the happiest meal of them all...cheeseburgers from McDonald's.
Lilly's is going to make an EXCELLENT little flyer! She was very curious about airports and airplanes and didn't sleep a wink...and even better - she didn't cry AT ALL!!! Lilly is going to be racking up the miles this year, so we'll see if we can get her elite status yet. We can see it now, "Some milk before take-off ma'am?"
Lilly's first plane ride!
Everything about Virginia was fabulous (except the allergies part). Everyone was happy to make Lilly's acquaintance. It was her first time meeting her Kun-Tha who picked them up at the airport. He was pretty excited and took the day off since"Nobody was going to pick Lilly up except him!" The love-fest between Lilly and Kun-Tha continued all week with daily strolls around Vienna, naptime together and chat-time.
Lilly got to meet her many admirers, Marie, Sommer, Pe-Jep, Pe-Nib and Beth just to name a few. Cheryl and Pe-Jim also met Lilly for the first time. They were both a huge help throughout graduation weekend. It was just practice for Cheryl who will be flying out to take care of Lilly in July when we're in Bermuda. Lilly loved being in Virginia and seeing her grandparents, but proved that she just may be a North Dakota girl at heart since she got wicked allergies while she was there. We are thinking that she never really had pink eye, just bad allergies. Lilly's condition aside, the weekend was about Bubba's graduation from Virginia Tech, not the "Little Asian Mop Top" as Bubs described her. We had a nice dinner on Friday at The Summit and a party at Bubba's on Saturday. It was great to see Bubs graduate; we are very proud of her!

After we got home we began Garden-a-thon 2009. Our first stop on Monday was All Seasons to pick up our pots and some rose bushes. We got 5 rose bushes, 2 pink, 2 peach and one purple. They look fab! Brian golfed Thursday and Saturday. He is thinking about joing the pro tour after smoking the ball and dropping putts like it's his job. Saturday we also gardened. We planted 2 more roses and some other filler plants. We also mulched. EXCITING!!!!!! Seriously, getting into the garden is always an exciting event here at the Goodman House.
Sunday morning we spent with Grandma Bernie and Ron visiting Grandpa Gene's grave. We celebrated the life of Grandpa Gene with a picnic, some wine and a lot of sunshine.
Hope everybody has a safe, happy and healthy Memorial Day! We'll drink a Hamm's for you.
