Lilly is currently suffering from a very bad case of stranger anxiety. We hope that this is just a phase and we've found that after a few hours of face time, she does well with a new person. So, it wasn't until the first full day that Lilly began warming up to everyone in the Tinaves household. But how could she not - with there being someone to play with every hour of the day! It was nice for both of us to be surrounded by people - usually it's just Chilly and Lilly in GF until Brian gets home.
Lilly's mornings started bright and early with breakfast, cartoons and Fox News with Tha, sometimes nature walks around the yard and kisses with Yai. Then Aunt Jubs would give her a bath and "bootcamp"...required tummy time, rollovers and sitting practice. Then a daily 3 mile stroll with Tha and an afternoon of playing or shopping at Tysons. Chilly's only role was to feed her, and only if she wouldn't take a bottle from someone else...and you know what? It was nice a change for Chilly!
While in VA we also welcomed Bruno Tinaves to the family. Arisa's puppy mini-dachsund is adorable and the perfect size for Lilly! In VA Lilly discovered dogs. She got lots of kisses from Maggie Kaplan the black lab, met Annie and Isabelle and played with Bruno.
We celebrated Jubs' upcoming nuptials with a bridal shower and were very honored to have Ma (grandma in chinese) Patanavanich present. Ma is 96 years old, weighs about 80 lbs and refuses to leave her house for any and all events, so it was very big deal that she was there. This can only mean that Jubs marriage will be very blessed! (Asians find meanings in everything). THEN, Ma came for another visit two days later! She knew where she was, who Chilly's dad was and she held Lilly for a good while.
The weather was right on par for a muggy DC summer and it was FABULOUS. Chilly, her sisters and friends had a night out on the Georgetown Waterfront - the only person missing was Brian! (Summer 2010 we can repeat!) Lilly loved the fourth of July fireworks! We stayed in Vienna for the show and couldn't have asked for a better view. The town lit the fireworks at the park down the street from Chilly's house so we stayed at the house and had our own private viewing!

The only traumatic event was on Wednesday, July 8. Chilly ran to the mall to pick up some last minute items before her trip to Bermuda. When she came home to pick up her Dad so they could get Brian from the airport, she found a smiling but teary Lilly in her Tha's arms. General Jubs then emerged from a bedroom to tell Chilly that she left Lilly to fend for herself in her play area. Gen. Jubs made sure Lilly had been fed, had a clean diaper and had her toys near her and then Jubs did her own thing while staying in the room. It was a lesson in teaching Lilly that she didn't need to be held all the time. Jubs knew Lilly would cry for a bit, but thought she'd get over it. OBVIOUSLY she doesn't know the lung capacity of our Lilly. The babe cried for a full HOUR AND A HALF before Tha (who had been forbidden to pick her up during the "lesson") had had enough of the crying and felt bad for his grandbaby. But apparently the lesson worked - Chilly and her dad left to get Brian and Jubs and Lilly stared at each other quickly arriving at a silent agreement. Then both sat pleasantly on the sofa, Cheryl checking her email and Lilly playing with her toys until Brian arrived!
It's a good thing Jubs and Lilly "understood" each other because Jubs was Lilly's main caretaker the rest of the weekend since we were attending a wedding in Bermuda. We know Lilly did well from the text updates and pictures we received while at the wedding. It's been a long time since there was a baby in the Tinaves household and it definitely took "a village to raise her" but they did great! When we arrived back in VA, Lilly was sitting up all on her own!
Thanks for taking care of Lilly!
