Hurtin' and Learnin'

The good stuff first:

- Bingo is WALKING. Sure, she chooses to mainly crawl, but within a week of turning one she was able to walk across a room!

- Bingo is talking. She's always been a babbler, but now I really really think she's trying to say something. She definitely understands what we are saying to her but besides, Dada, Hi, uh-oh, Yai and Tha... i can confirm that she is saying cat and kitty. that happened tonight. A few weeks ago we thought we heard her trying to say Lilly, but tonight for sure she was! The L is not coming out very clearly but there's definitely a "ee ee" and looking right at her sister. Also, last Friday while skyping with auntie bubs, i asked her, "can you say Bubba?" and she replied with "baba". (sure, it is way easy to say, but still counts!) She will repeat a word if you ask her; "car".

- Lilly is trying really hard to write. She'll ask us to spell words for her and we'll sound it out and she can figure out the letter.

- Working on reading. There are some words that she just needs to know from memory, "the", "is" for example. So we are working on having her "read" bedtime stories together. From the "I Can Read" books, she just delights in being able to read the "the" and the "I" and "A"... recognition is the first step! Sisters do you recall "Morris Goes to School" or "No More Monsters for Me!"? I found 4 or 5 of these books at the local antique store last fall and we've been reading them. I wonder what Mom did with our copies at home?

The bad stuff:

Lilly slipped down the stairs at the beginning of the week and ended up with major rug burn on her nose.

Bingo had been taking amoxicillin for her ear infection. It's the first medication she's ever had so we weren't sure if she was allergic, although Brian is. Lilly was also on amoxicillin and she was fine. Well, BINGO sure is not. It took about 10 days to show up, but Bingo is most definitely allergic. She is covered head-to-toe in a horrible red rash. It is going down some. We stopped the amoxicillin yesterday and switched to zithromax.
