Summer Things

This past Monday was the summer solstice and we've been out enjoying our short summer season here in North Dakota. While the East Coast has been sweltering in triple digit temperatures, we've been trying to go outside in between all the rain. Hard to believe but anything over 85 degrees feels hot, now. I know - bizarre considering that I grew up in hot and humid NoVa summers and lived in even hotter Williamsburg for 5 years. I guess my body has acclimated to North Dakota temperatures.

It's been a busy week doing summer-y things.

Wednesday: all three of us attended "Summerthings" an event for kids hosted by the Grand Forks Park District. It was held at University Park and was very well attended by the community.

Thursday: we had lunch with Hayden and Beth and then they joined us at the pool along with Myles and his mom and baby brother. Myles is the cute little boy we went to lunch with a few weeks ago who gave Lilly all kinds of loving - aka hugs and kisses galore! Unfortunately it rained while we were at the pool so we ran into the green room and the kiddies devoured popsicles and looked out the windows at the rain. This time, Lilly was the aggressor and chased down Myles to give him kisses!

Friday: Hayden, Beth, Lilly and I visited the Grand Forks County Fair. The tots were only tall enough to ride the carousel and the ferris wheel. Lilly was a big fan of the carousel, until it started moving, then she hated it. She was terrified of the petting zoo (alpacas, llamas, sheep, goats) and clung on to me tightly. The only thing at the petting zoo she was OK with were the rabbits and even then she preferred to be carried. We'll have to give it a try next year!

if there was ever any doubt that we live in N.D., this John Deere photo proves it
