Thursday evening our friend Bjorgo suggested to Brian that he participate in the Southgate’s Ribs Cook-Off contest on Saturday. Brian loves to cook, loves to cook ribs, and he loves a cooking competition. So he was a green light on all fronts.
This morning, bright and early, Brian and Michael set up camp at the Southgate parking lot. Anything doing with the ribs - preparation, marinating, etc. was only allowed to be done the day of at the parking lot. So the two of them hauled our Weber, required cooking tools and chairs and hung out there for the day.
Brian was pretty excited that the trophies were of pigs. He ran a test batch in the morning and this afternoon the competition began. There were three competitors total and Brian came out on top! Apparently, Brian won by a landslide (according to the judges). His ribs fell off the bone, were meaty (thank you HORMEL MEATS) and delicious.
He won his first place pig trophy and a $100 cash prize!
This marks the second cooking competition that Brian has won! (the first was the chili cook-off at NPS earlier this year) Congratulations Brian!!
