Lady Gaga: Born This Way
I picked up Lady Gaga's new album, Born this Way, at Costco on Sunday. It's a 2 disc compilation - the first disc has 17 tracks and the second disc is of remixes of 5 of the songs from disc 1. I think it leaves a lot to be desired. It's not horrible by any means, but it's no "The Fame" or even "The Fame Monster". It definitely is club-eriffic and can get a dance party going. Some of the songs are as Bubs says "bad versions of Madonna" (not just "Born this Way sounds like Madonna) and I think at least 2 of the songs have some strains of Kenny G music. There's a lot of "love yourself and be strong" messaging. Already getting air play are "Born This Way", "Judas" and "The Edge of Glory". There is a very strong 80's pop vibe throughout the entire cd - and I have two older sisters who grew up in the 80's so I listened to this music quite a bit. "Government Hooker" is pretty catchy - I mean, all the songs are - but it's the most true to the Lady Gaga songs from cds prior. The way the songs are ordered sounds like it could be a soundtrack and after going to a Lady Gaga concert where it was similar to a Broadway show with a storyline - I can definitely picture the flow of the song orders: track 1 is "Marry the Night" and track 17 is "The Edge of Glory" - which totally sounds like the uplifting song at the end of the movie just as the credits are rolling. The whole cd and the movie that's playing in my head is one that's about gay union and the fight for legality. What do you think of Lady Gaga's new cd?
** I just finished reading this month's Costco magazine and apparently the cd I got at Costco is an exclusive version of Born This Way, with three additional tracks, five remixes and two bonus digital download remixes.

I got it for 99cents on amazon when it was on sale and I thought that the first cd was way better. I do like Judas and edge of glory though.
