12 Weeks

Today we had our first doctor appointment for Baby #2. I have a new OB/GYN since my old doctor moved to Hawaii. Our new doctor actually delivered Lilly and is mayor of our fair city, Dr. Mike Brown! The baby has a strong heart beat and as Dr. Brown put it, I have a bit of pooch in my tummy, "there's definitely something there". Um...thanks? I'm pretty aware of the fact that this pregnancy is MUCH MORE visible in these early weeks than it was with Lilly. Lilly and Brian also came to the appointment and we all enjoyed listening to the baby's heart beat. Dr. Brown also cleared me for air travel up to 36 weeks....see you soon Hawaii and Florida! He is a very efficient doctor and personable - no wonder why he's in politics too. No weird cravings or anything like that. Heightened sense of smell again, otherwise uneventful pregnancy thus far. The due date is officially Leap Year - Feb. 29, 2012.  (3 years and one month after Lilly - well... and a day)

During Week 12 the baby is the size of a plum and we're at the end of the first trimester. Most of the baby's critical systems are fully formed and the baby is about to enter the growth and maturation stage, in which her organs and tissues will grow and develop rapidly. The baby is now developing it's reflexes -- if you poke the body, it'll likely move. It is opening and closing it's fingers and curling it's toes and the brain is developing fast.

Prego picture to follow this weekend.
