This past weekend our friends invited us to join them at their lake cabin on Long Lake in Park Rapids, MN - you know, land of 10,000 lakes. We had a great time. I'm always a bit apprehensive about "lake cabins"... will it be rustic, will there be water pressure, will there be bugs, etc. This "cabin" was fabulous because really, it was a regular home (complete with excellent water pressure, air conditioning, wireless Internet, carpeting, a great bathroom (from NPS of course!) - that just happened to be on a pretty body of water. It was relaxing and peaceful and we spent a lot of time water-skiing, on the pontoon and hanging out on the deck. The kids loved feeding the chipmunks and the fish but wanted nothing to do with going in the water. Our last afternoon there we docked at a little beach where some friends were and Lilly was coaxed to play in the water by the daughter of my girlfriends. She loved it.
"Going to the lake" is a common occurrence around here in the summer time. People basically live there the whole summer! While we had a great time, I'm pretty sure it's not something that we will be investing in (sorry Arisa), but it sure is nice to have friends with lake cabins!
