Lilly's artistic personality shines through more and more each day. She's at ease coloring, painting, dancing, making music and as of late, singing - at the top of her lungs. (no money needed) I also think she's been influenced by watching Glee. Lilly's dance recital is in a few weeks and she definitely remembers all the moves to "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer", but performance depends on her mood.
Her brainier side is exercised with all of her books and puzzles. She loves reading aloud by herself and prefers that her bedtime stories be read by Mom. When she reads it's usually in her own language, but she's also learned to tell the story by looking at the pictures. Dr. Seuss is still a major favorite, especially "Hop on Pop". Her puzzles are too easy for her now. They are the "lift out"/"peg" puzzles so now we are on the lookout for puzzles that piece together. We did buy her a 48 piece puzzle, and although it is A LOT harder, she does give it a good try. I'm sure Santa will find an appropriate puzzle to leave under the tree for her. Typical of a 22 month old, Lilly enjoys piling things and then moving her piles from one location to another. Usually, they're piles of books. Besides puzzles and books, Lilly has finally taken a real interest in "Legos", building blocks and pretend play w/objects - aka baby dolls, Barbies, figurines, etc. She builds towers and "mothers" the babies. It's very sweet.
New words are said daily and known words are said with lots of expression. "Lilly, do you want this?" "ummm.. noooo". "Lilly, did you forget your hat?" "oh yeah!" Her "s" is coming out more like "sh" so for the past couple of weeks we thought Lilly was saying "Shut up" and we couldn't figure out where she was hearing these words, since we've cleaned up our language use around her. Turns out she's been saying, "Stand up"....ENUNCIATION is the keep... the "ST" and "D" from now on are CLEARLY said.
She's a big help around the house. She loves to empty bags from the grocery store, fold laundry and sweep. Picking up her toys is a battle.
Buttercup has resigned herself to being at the will of Lilly. But it's not a bad thing; it just means an overflow of treats, lots of hugs and petting, and a lot of Lilly-in-your-face time. It's only happened once, but Lilly was ecstatic when she woke up to find Buttercup sleeping next to her.
Lilly is now in her own big girl room and big girl bed. She likes it, but we still sleep with her (sometimes). She does wake up in the middle of the night and calls out for/finds us. She also stalls "bed time" by asking to brush her teeth again or for a drink of water. Even though Lilly goes to sleep with her head on her pillow, she moves around so much in her sleep, that she usually wakes up upside down.
Although sippy cups are still in use, Lilly has a good grasp on using real cups! This past weekend, while eating her miso soup, Auntie Jubs showed Lilly that she could sip from a bowl too - just like a cup and she took a liking to it. Our potty training has regressed. If we put Lilly on the pot, she'll perform, but there doesn't seem to be a yearning desire to stop using diapers. She is very vocal though once she has soiled a diaper, and actually she will say "I poooooooooooped" - even though she hasn't....until 10-15 minutes later when you smell her. Obviously, she's telling us she has to go, but when we put her on there, she doesn't have the patience to sit around and wait... so potty training is still a work in progress.
Back to her creative side, she is very theatrical and can easily turn on the waterworks. Big crocodile tears come rolling down her cheeks if she doesn't get her way. She is also pretty sensitive, if she's done something wrong or if she's embarrassed, she'll get very upset and then sad and then the tears.
She is a happy thriving little kid. She's awesome.
