Things That Own

In the spirit of the upcoming holiday season, we're putting together a list of our favorite things (aka things that own). This is by no means a solicitation for you to buy anything for us, as we already have these items. Here are some current things that own for us at the Goodman household:

LILLY (21 months)

1. BOWL and GLASS from TARGET

I bought this cheap melamine bowl from Target...in the household section...every season there's a different print. I figured Lilly might like something fun and colorful and kid-like instead of our white "Aspen" place settings from Crate and Barrel. The bowl has tall square sides and is dishwasher and microwave safe. She loves drinking from the glass because it's not a sippy cup. The sides are high and gives her something to grip. The cup is the perfect size for her little hands. The bowl and cup were between $1.99 and $3.99 each.

2. OLIVIA

Lilly likes Olivia in all forms, whether its in a book, stuffed animal or television/DVD. As a matter of fact, we are watching Olivia right now. There's a new Olivia book that just came out, Olivia Goes to Venice. We checked it out at the library last month. Oh that Olivia - causing trouble in the city of bridges.

3. HAPPY MEALS

Although San Francisco banned the toys in Happy Meals, we love them out here in Grand Forks. We are not above buying Lilly Happy Meals. She loves the 4 piece chicken nuggets, fries and chocolate milk meal. Currently McDonald's Happy Meal toys are "Megamind" themed (Megamind movie). Lilly already has two of the toys and she loves playing with them. This is a recent development: playing with action figures and pretending. I see Barbies in our near future.

BRIAN (27 years old)

1. McDonald's

Like father like daughter. Brian also loves McDonald's. He likes the McChicken and the McRib. As evidenced by his recent article in the LA Times, "McRib Lovers Wax Poetic". Even on Election night, Brian's quotes/article was the most emailed article on yahoo news. Go ahead, google "Brian Goodman and McRib"...you'll get an astounding 1300 results, ranging from Twitter, Facebook, the LA Times to the Baltimore Sun.It is also Monopoly game time at McDonald's!

2. TWITTER

Brian likes being spoon-fed his news instantaneously and being able to keep in touch with all his friends with a single text message.

3. WANCHAI FERRY FROZEN DINNERS

These frozen dinners are cooked on the stove and ready in ten minutes., The even include the rice. Brian thinks they are much better than the P.F. Chang's frozen dinner. His favorite is the spicy garlic chicken flavor, but the orange chicken is a close second.

4. RUBICON

This TV show on AMC stars James Badgedale (character: Will Turner) as an analyst for the American Policy Institute - the most secretive and all encompassing spy agency in the United States. It's awesome.

5. The GOP Win this Week

Brian is a happy camper.

1. SHELLAC-ing

On Oct. 15, Del and I went to a nail salon in Vienna and got shellac-ed on the recommendation from our good friend Nikki. She explained that it basically coated our nails (it's half nail polish and half gel) and would keep our manicure in good shape; no chipping, peeling, etc. The nails had to be dried under the UV light, but it took only half the time as a traditional manicure. It's Nov. 7 and my nails look perfect. The only way that you can tell that it's an old manicure is bc my nails grow at such a fast rate so you can see the growth from the bottom. Not one nail has a chip nor has the polish began to peel. The nails are still shiny (shiny as associated with gel (artificial) nails). I love shellacing. It's also better than getting the gel, bc it doesn't have to be sanded off - it comes off with regular nail polish remover and doesn't leave your nails thin, brittle and torn like gel. The only con I found was that I was limited to colors, but that maybe due to what the salon had. Now I need to find out if Star Nails here in Grand Forks Shellacs. LOVE LOVE LOVE Shellac.

2. Christian Dior Diorshow Unlimited Mascara 090 Black

In Vienna, Lilly was playing with my makeup bag and ended up opening my mascara and brushed her teeth with my wand. So I needed a new mascara. Thankfully, Arisa had just told me how two different types of Christian Dior mascara landed in her possession. She so kindly, gave me one. It is awesome. It really lengthens and separates each lash. And it was free! (for me). Arisa got the mascara at Nordstroms but it can be found anywhere Christian Dior makeup is sold ($24). I just googled it and found this description:

from google:

Christian Dior Diorshow Mascara

What it is: A cult-followed mascara that leaves lashes ultra thick, long, and curled. What it is formulated to do:DiorShow Mascara is Dior's original, must-have mascara that delivers ultra-glam, catwalk-length lashes. Makeup artists all over the world use this product to create the longest, thickest, curviest lashes ever.

WHAT DOESN'T OWN: Lilly's cold.

Lilly's cold that we all now have. But Boogie Wipes are to the rescue! Boogie Wipes own. Basically it's a wet wipe for your nose that has saline - which will help with little ones' stuffy noses. It also keeps the nose moisturized and doesn't chap the skin like most tissue. We get ours at Target. LOVE LOVE LOVE Boogie Wipes.

Brian's twitter is highly amusing. I follow it! And I can't wait to get Mei Li hooked onto Olivia! I have an Olivia tea cup for myself.

LOVE LOVE LOVE shellacking too. I've never had a manicure last this long in my life - 2 weeks later it still looks perfect. Thanks for the recommendation!!
