Last week I finally completed the Twilight Saga when I turned the last page of Breaking Dawn. I didn't start the series because I love vampires, but I will admit that I netflixed Twilight to see what all the hub-bub was about and got swept up in the story. So I made my way through Twilight, New Moon and within the past two months, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn.
Breaking Dawn follows Bella and Edward as they marry and prepare for their eternal lives together. Much like the other books in the series, there are two stories within the novel. Unlike the other books, Breaking Dawn was a very fast read despite the intimidating massiveness of the hardcover.
While there are sexual situations presented in the novel, the author, Stephanie Meyer, tactfully dances around it. Maybe it's the Mormon in her. The wolves of the Quilute tribe are also present in this book and it is clarified that they are not "werewolves" but "shape-shifters" (a term also used in the Sookie Stackhouse series - also about vampires which HBO True Blood is based on).
If you are going to read Breaking Dawn and don't want to know what happens - stop reading. Otherwise, here goes:
The book is broken up into three parts told by Bella and Jacob. Bella and Edward get married and honeymoon and she gets pregnant (as a human). But since she's incubating a super-immortal the gestation period is only two weeks instead of 9 months. The birth of the super-immortal almost kills her. Jacob finally finds his mate that he's "imprinted" to and Bella becomes immortal. Then its the Cullen Coven versus the Volturi. The Volturi are the Italian group in charge of the vampire world, first seen in New Moon.
I realize the above is a very brief synopsis of the book - but I don't want to tell too much.
I have no doubt that Breaking Dawn will soon be a movie and it may actually be made into a two-parter..... and I'll be at the theater because Edward is sooooooo dreamy!
