Can't you just picture her eventually sitting in business class, working on important documents in 20 years? Here, her important work to do is coloring in her binder.
We made it to Virginia on Thursday evening, but getting here was a bit hairy.
Usually traveling with Lilly is a breeze, but an active 15 month old and mom loaded down like a pack mule, made for interesting travel. Oh! Throw in head congestion and popping ears for both mother and child and that equals one screaming baby for the last 15 minutes of a 45 minute flight! Let's not forget to mention that our flight departing from GFK was 20 minutes late so when we landed in MSP at 3PM in Gate G - we had to haul it to Gate C for our flight that was departing at 3:10. Again, remember that there's active Lilly, a stroller, a 30lb shoulder bag, a purse and a diaper bag. It sucked - but we made it! Thank God Ryan (trainer at the gym) makes me strength train with at least 30lbs/arm for upper body! The one and only positive thing of our GFK to MSP flight was that Lilly sat in her own seat and LOVED it! (The seat next to me was empty...we don't pay for Lilly until she turns 2, but she gets her own seat then).
So we arrived in our seats extremely sweaty - but ON TIME! Only to find a man who was "keeping our seat warm". After he moved into his middle seat and relinquished our "warmed" aisle seat, I gave him friendly warning that Lilly was not feeling well and hadn't napped and he gave me a dirty look. Unfortunately, Lilly was infatuated with his watch and we end up talking. Turns out he grew up in GF and knows Ron and Barry Goodman, etc. etc. Thankfully, Lilly started to cry so we went to the back of the plane and napped the rest of the way to DCA!
On a side note - not trying to sound spoiled, but not having an elite flying status blows. Since moving to ND in 2006, I have been a NWA and then Delta, Silver Elite member. Being an "elite" member allows you to board first, get upgrades, the choice seats and NOT PAY for any luggage. I am very grateful to have been a member - my miles coming from visiting VA often and the extraordinary vacations that Dana and Northern Plumbing let me tag-along on. Well, in 2009 there was not enough flying going on with the kid...so Brian and I both lost our status.
Thursday's flight was the first time I haven't been "elite" in a long time. Not getting to pre-board -HORRIBLE. Paying $25 for the first piece of luggage - AWFUL. Sitting in the back of the plane (which was my choice as I did choose to move back there) and being the LAST person off - an extra HALF hour.
To be elite I have to fly at least 25,000 miles (paid miles - not free tickets) or fly at least 30 segments.
Unfortunately, I think it's going to be another year of no status.

Yeah my long distance relationship helped me become a USair Silver member - apparently I did not keep that up as I got a note saying I had to pay $500 to keep it. I used to get upgraded to first class almost every flight and never paid for luggage. Now I am cramped in Coach and at least $25 poorer each flight. Yuk.
I thought that "families w/ small children" get to be one of the first to board - right after the elderly, disabled, unaccompanied minors and "members" right?? Glad to hear you made it safe either way!
